Facebook Spaces is a new social platform set in VR

April 21, 2017

Facebook has announced a new social platform, that allows users to meet with friends in a virtual world. An avatar, an animated character you choose that somewhat looks like you, is created from your Facebook photos. You can connect with your Facebook friends and share your Facebook pictures and videos. The beta version is only available on Oculus Rift.

Hanging with cartoon friends seems like an odd way to communicate now, but I can see the Facebook Spaces platform developing to where the avatars are more life-like and you can visit places in real-time. The platform could be a great tool for people that cannot get out, or reside in remote places.
