Autonomous Underwater Drone

July 20, 2024

The Hydrus an autonomous underwater drone is optimized for performance in the ocean. The drone measures approximately 19 inches (484 mm) in length, 10.4 inches (264 mm) in width, and 8.5 inches (216 mm) in height. It weighs around 14.8 pounds (6.7 kg), making it compact and portable while still being packed with advanced technology.

The drone is equipped with a high-resolution camera capable of capturing 4K video at 60 frames per second (FPS). This camera is complemented by powerful LED lights that provide an impressive 20,000 lumens of illumination, ensuring clear and detailed footage even in the dark underwater environment. The Hydrus drone can operate at depths of up to 300 meters (984 feet) or 1,000 meters (3,281 feet), making it suitable for a wide range of underwater missions.

The Hydrus underwater drone features a sophisticated propulsion system that includes multiple thrusters, allowing it to maneuver with precision in all directions. This includes forward and backward movement, as well as vertical and lateral adjustments. The drone's navigation system is supported by advanced algorithms and sensors, including an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and a depth sensor, providing stability and accurate positioning even in strong currents.

The Hydrus drone boasts a maximum transit speed of 2 knots and a maximum survey speed of 1.5 knots. Its range extends up to 2 kilometers (1.24 miles), allowing for extensive exploration and data collection within a single mission. Operators can control the Hydrus drone using a remote control unit with a user-friendly interface. The control unit connects to the drone via a robust wireless link, providing real-time video feed and telemetry data. Additionally, the drone can be paired with a smartphone or tablet for enhanced control options, including mission planning and data analysis.
