Enclosed 3D Printer
March 17, 2025
Elegoo has made a bold entry into the CoreXY 3D printing market with the Centauri Carbon, a machine that combines speed, precision, and affordability. Priced at just $299, this fully enclosed printer is designed to cater to both hobbyists and professionals, offering features typically found in higher-end models.
The Centauri Carbon employs a CoreXY kinematic system, enabling high-speed printing with impressive accuracy. It boasts a maximum speed of 500mm/s and acceleration of 20,000mm/s², making it one of the fastest printers in its price range. With a build volume of 10.07 x 10.07 x 10.07 inches (256 x 256 x 256 mm), the printer provides ample space for a variety of projects.
The printer supports a wide range of materials, including PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS, and even carbon fiber composites, thanks to its high-temperature capabilities (up to 320°C for the hot end and 110°C for the heated bed). Automatic bed leveling, a dual-surface magnetic PEI build plate, and a 4.3-inch color touchscreen make the Centauri Carbon easy to use. It also includes a filament runout sensor and connectivity options like LAN, Wi-Fi, and USB.
The fully enclosed frame not only enhances safety but also improves temperature management. The Centauri Carbon delivers exceptional print quality, even at high speeds. Its direct drive extruder and high-flow hotend ensure consistent extrusion, while the strain gauge bed leveling system eliminates the need for manual adjustments. The printer's enclosure includes integrated filters to reduce fumes and odors, making it a practical choice for indoor use. Elegoo provides its custom slicing software, ElegooSlicer, which is based on the open-source Orca Slicer. The software is intuitive and includes pre-configured profiles for various materials. Users can also access the printer's web interface for remote monitoring and control, thanks to the built-in chamber camera.
