Four Wheeled Quadruped

October 11, 2023

The W1 is a quadruped robot from LimX Dynamics with wheels for feet. Combining wheels and legs improves mobility and the ability to traverse different types of terrains and obstacles. W1 is equipped with high-performing actuators and perception and motion control algorithms that allow its motion to be smooth and precise. From the video you can see how versatile this four wheeled-legged robot is, compared to a standard robot dog. The wheels permit the robot to roll smoothly and swiftly where the terrain allows, and this is a big advantage over walking robot dogs. The wheels can also be locked in place, so they perform like feet, when walking up stairs for example. Because of their versatility and efficiency, look for more of these types of hybrid robots in the future.
