Motorcycle Radar System
January 7, 2025
Garmin has introduced the zūmo R1 Radar, a motorcycle radar system designed to enhance rider safety and situational awareness. This innovative device offers a range of features aimed at providing motorcycle enthusiasts with peace of mind on the road. The zūmo R1 Radar is equipped with Rearview and Blind Spot Monitoring to provide real-time information about the location of approaching vehicles, especially those in your blind spot. This helps riders make safer lane changes and navigate traffic more confidently.
The device features two side-facing amber lights and an optional rear-facing red light to maximize visibility to nearby vehicles. Additionally, audio alerts can be paired with compatible helmets or headsets via the zūmo™ Radar smartphone app, providing audible notifications when other vehicles are approaching. Riders can adjust the light and alert settings through the zūmo Radar app, deciding how near or far away they want their indicator lights to notify them of approaching vehicles. This customization ensures that each rider can tailor the system to their specific needs and preferences.
When paired with a compatible smartphone or the zūmo XT2 motorcycle navigator, the zūmo R1 Radar offers a full-screen radar display of in-range vehicles. This allows riders to have a clear view of their surroundings at all times. The zūmo R1 Radar is designed to be discreetly mounted above or below the license plate, preserving the aesthetic of the motorcycle. It features black powder-coated hardware with an IP67 dust and water rating, making it durable enough to withstand harsh environments. The device is hard-wired into the motorcycle's electrical system, eliminating the need for batteries or charging. This ensures a clean installation and uninterrupted functionality.
