Training Wheels

Slow autonomous vehicles are a good thing. It is better than sharing the road with high-speed self-driving semi-trucks, at least until they work the bugs out.

Cars, buses, and robots that operate autonomously in airports or malls are designed to put safety before speed and for good reason. As the hardware and artificial intelligence improve, so will the speed. Until then, get lost in the technology and try and be patient like the guy waiting for the door to open in the video. He almost seems to enjoy it.

This could be an driverless racecar or it could be my Aunt Sue running late for church. But seriously, I have been watching the Roborace team since they posted their first video, and I wish more game-changing projects were like this, pushing the boundaries of technology, but not letting commercial interests override safety.
