World's First Designer Babies?

The Associated Press reports on a Chinese scientist's claim to have created the world's first gene-edited babies. The twin baby's genes were edited to make these humans more resistant to the AIDS virus. Chinese researcher, He Jiankui of Shenzhen, said that the gene-edited twin babies were born healthy two weeks ago. The work was done in secrecy and has not yet been confirmed by the scientific community.

This type of gene editing is considered unethical in many parts of the world, (banned in the United States), because the technology and the human genome are not fully understood, and they are changes that can be inherited by future generations.

This appalling experiment in human germline engineering proves one thing for sure, designer babies are coming, and neither regulations or ethics will stop them.
