February 2024 Skywatching Tips from NASA

February 2, 2024

In the nightime sky in February, look for Venus just before dawn in the Eastern sky. It will move closer to the horizon in February, and get harder to see in the sunrise. Jupiter appears on Valentine's Day, February 14th, next to a crescent Moon after sunset. Speaking of the Moon, you can send your name to the Moon on NASA's Viper moon rover, scheduled to launch later this year. The spiral galaxy Messier 81 (also known as Bode's Galaxy) can be viewed through binoculars fairly easily in February. It can be found near the Big Dipper.
